Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the cells of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. Most cases are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection. It often progresses slowly, starting as precancerous changes in the cells before developing into invasive cancer. Early stages may show no symptoms, but as it advances, signs like abnormal vaginal bleeding, pain during intercourse, or pelvic pain may occur. Regular screenings, such as Pap smears, are vital for early detection and successful treatment, which may involve surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. Listen in.
